Japanese ammo bearers and 'Humanity triumphant'

Fresh from the painter's table, this time Simon Bradley of StoneColdLead Painting, these are now also available:

RJ-J09 Japanese ammo bearers (3 miniatures + pack mule)

The two ammo bearers' carry the blue insignias of the transport/logistic branch of the army, while the soldier receiving the ammo pack is a regular infantryman.
This is a little bit of artistic licence as I couldn't find out, if these ammo bearers were actual members of the transport branch or maybe just members of the infantry regiments. Be that as it may, the blue makes a nice change from the regular red. ;-)

The second set is presumably of little use for actual gaming (well, maybe as distortion markers or something like that) but it would make nice dioramas, etc.

As it doesn't really fit into the Russian or Japanese category only, I put it into its own (Russo-Japanese Misc.). I hope to add more like this into this category to liven the gaming tables up. The next release on the list is the Japanese cavalry, though. ;-)

Japanese horses & mule painted

Here they are, all eight different horses for the Japanese cavalry painted by Simon of Stone Cold Lead.

There are two sets with four horses each, one with standing/trotting horses and the other one with running/galloping:

Simon also painted the pack mule, that will be part of the upcoming Japanese ammo bearer set:

The mule and all eight horses, incl. all the sadles, harnesses, equipment and baggage, were sculpted by eBob.


PS: The dollies for the cavalry soldiers and the ammo bearers should be in the work right now! ;-)

Simon has worked his magic again. ;-) Here are the painted versions of latest three Russian sets:

RJ-R05 Russian Standard-bearers, Bugler and Drummer (4)

(incl. two standard tops with poles)

Painted as members of the 34th Infantry Regiment "Sevskiy" (the advancing miniatures) and and the  36th Infantery Regiment "Orlovskiy" (the standing ones), to fit in with the officers and NCOs and the respective troopers. (The ensigns are obviously missing their standards, these will be added later.)

Painted as members of the 33^rd Regiment "Eletskiy", which means that now every regiment of the 9th infantry division is depicted in form of one of the painted trooper sets.

Colour/Painting Guide: Russian infantry

There have been some enquiries about the colour Simon used for the Russian infantry, as I suppose that's a usefull bit of information to a broader audience, here are his recipes:

The colour schemes for the Russian Uniforms were: Trousers were a base mix of VMC Russian Uniform WWII and black highlighted with GW's defunct Dheneb Stone. The light tunics used a base mix of VMC Khaki Grey and German WWII Beige Camo highlighted with VMC Stone Grey. The drab tunics were a base of VMC Russian Uniform WWII and another defunct GW colour, Charadon Granite and the highlight colour was again Dheneb Stone.

Advancind Japanese Troopers painted

Again, I'm sorry for the lack of updates. I'm still working on my Bachelor's degree... only one more part to do!


Simon hasn't been sitting around idle either as you can see from the following photo:

Colour/Painting Guide: Japanese infantry

A couple of days ago I received an enquiry about the colours Simon used to paint the uniforms of our display models. I thought I'd best share it here so anybody interested can benefit from it.

So, without furthern ado here's Simon's colour guide:

I basically used 4 colours: GW Foundation Khemri Brown and Dheneb Stone and Vallejo Game Color Desert Yellow and Bonewhite.

The darker coloured uniforms used a base of Khemri Brown highlighted with Desert Yellow and finally a little Bonewhite. The lighter uniforms were given a base mix of Khemri Brown and Dheneb Stone, with more Dheneb Stone being used for highlights (I may have added a little white for some of the final highlights as well).

The different shades of khaki on some trousers, blouses and caps represent pieces from different origins, delivery batches and also some, that haven been in use longer than others and therefore faded under the Manchurian sun.
The differences may seem a little bit extreme but I've actually seen worse fading and colour variations during my own mandatory military service in 2002/03.
